The increasing need for production optimization and rationalization in the chemical, polymer, pharmaceutical and related industries has led to the substitution of time-consuming or unspecific analytical procedures by faster (preferably in-line and on-line), more specific and environmentally compatible techniques. In this respect, mid-infrared, near-infrared and Raman spectroscopy have developed over the last years to indispensable analytical tools for chemical quality control and process monitoring in a wide field of applications.
